Wimberley Glassworks produces and sells intricate and beautiful hand blown glass vases, light fixtures and other high end custom decor. The owner needed a single building to serve as his retail gallery and an industrial manufacturing facility. The retail gallery needed to be comfortable and sleek as opposed to the extremely high temperatures and industrial finishes of the manufacturing space. MST addressed this challenge by using innovative, low maintenance and cost-effective materials. The energy efficient exterior insulated panel helps control heat exchange in all areas- keeping the gallery cool in the Texas heat while helping to prevent added heat to the production area. Passive ventilation and exahust fans remove heat from the manufacturing area as opposed to trying to condition the space, wasting energy and money. The designers at MST gave a pre-engineered metal bulding a sophisticated retail exterior flow and finish through the use of inviting porches, a two story foyer flooded by sunlight and eye catching modern lines and colors. Varying topography and a ground of hard limestone were addtional project challenges. The rock removed during sitework was crushed and used for base, saving project time and money. To suit the large number of elderly clientele, the building meets and exceeds handicap accessibility requirements. In keeping with the budget, long term vision of the owner and responsible green building practices, the new structure was plumbed for the future addition of a rainwater collection system.
